Are you a Grokette? Want a shirt?

Ok, so here's the quick story behind this. I wanted to make this for ME. But, um, apparently XL in Bella world is a M-L in the real world. I normally wear size L T-shirts but am still in XL shirts from Target, Gap, etc. They fit well, a little loose, but nice. So I figured hey, why wouldn't I be an XL?

Because apparently in some far-off world where these really well-made t-shirts are crafted (95% cotton, 5% spandex) XL is code word for "Lets make her grunt and struggle while trying to put this on and then have her look at her sausage-like self in the mirror and cackle sardonically."

Yeah so, the shirt doesn't fit. Doesn't even come close and since I don't know anyone in that size (stupid small, skinny friends) who would like a fitted shirt, I decided to make it anyway. And give it away!

So, this is a brand new black XL (but really a small-ish L I'd guess) with glitter pink lettering (What? I AM FABULOUS! SO ARE YOU!).

  1. Damn. I wish I was that small. Although... It would be perfect for my daughter. ...
Ok - my favorite side effect from eating cleaner... Gosh, there are so many.. 1. I'm off all diabetes meds, insulin, and blood pressure meds
    2. I have non-diabetic blood sugars now
    3. I can be the active mom I want to be, and that my kids will hopefully emulate instead of pre-Primal me (fat, lazy, and unmotivated)
    4. My PMDD is gone. My cycles are less sociopathic.
    5. What it's done for my family in terms of energy, motivation, health, mood, etc.

Good luck to everyone. The winner is gonna get an awesome gift. (Hope it's me, though) ;)

  2. Ooooh....covet covet! Wish I were a small. Someday soon though, right? I was thinking another idea would be O.G. (Original Grokette)...silly.
Lessee, since I started primal, I've spend way less time on the computer and couch, been outside more, have tons more energy, can stop thinking about food once I'm done eating, and my family is loving my cooking these days. Oh, and the apple that is my tummy is slowly shrinking.

  3. My favorite side effect from eating cleaner is the feeling I get when I cheat...which is gross, bloated and sleepy in 15 minutes. That's my reminder to keep eating clean. I also sleep a lot better even when I only get 5.5hrs of sleep a night.

  4. Well, if it doesn't fit you it surely won't fit me! Adorable shirt though!!!

  5. I love not being a slave to my cravings! I'm not constantly reaching for the chocolate covered almonds my husband always keeps around... or the Pringles... or the BBQ Lays chips...

  6. This shirt would perfectly fit me, but yes, I agree that Bella needs a sizing overhaul. And I am NOT skinny, I need to lose 20 lbs of baby weight.

What do I like about eating Primal? When I eat Primal I feel energized in an even-keeled way, not like you do when you down caffeine and sugar and get highs and lows. Less bloated and less gassy! Probably a nice side effect of eating UNprocessed foods.

Challenges? I fell off the wagon when it was 6pm and we had no dinner and the kids were whining and my husband was still working. I ended up making a veggie-pasta combo and throwing all Primal notions into the back drawer. What are good quick-ready-to-eat-grab-and-go dinner ideas that are still primal? I suppose a bowl of lettuce with a can of tuna on top would be better than nothing, but ... it didn't seem appetizing at the time.

I have yet to get back on the wagon but do intend to do so.

I am also struggling with the 80/20 notion ... I need some carbs, like whole oats or quinoa to maintain some carb stores because I do like long workout and runs. Another challenge? Getting off sugar wasn't too hard, I replaced it with dried fruits and I was eating way too many fruits and raisins which added up way too fast in terms of calories.

I think that Primal is not easy and hard to do, but totally worth it in the end!

  7. I live that my life doesn't feel so governed by food anymore. I feel like I am back in charge! And the nerd in me loves the challenge of finding new recipes and tricks to bring even my junk food addict husband onboard with this life!

Admittedly the late afternoon munchies are still hard. I miss my peppermint pattie fix :).

  8. I haven't tried a recipe yet, but I've printed several and should get to the store and farmer's market this weekend. Although I haven't read Sisson's books yet, I've read three of Michael Pollan's books and have actually visited Joel Salatin's Polyface Farms in Virginia. I've NEVER tasted eggs so good! And the steaks grilled to perfection!

  9. I'm not all the way there yet. I'm still struggling to not crave giant bowls of pasta and ice cream. But since I've cut out most of my bread intake, I've noticed I feel a lot better. My stomach doesn't feel like a giant knot of bloat and gas and blargh. The hardest part so far is convincing my husband that he doesn't need all the bread and sugar he consumes on a daily basis. Since I do the majority of the cooking, I get the majority of the say in what we eat, but I'm reluctant to force him to eat something he doesn't really want.

  10. When I don't eat sugar, my emotional state stays much more even. When I am sugar-free and feel upset, it's very likely that I'm actually upset and not just in a bad blood sugar state.

I just went Paleo for the first time yesterday as part of an experiment. My husband and I are treating it as an elimination diet for the next month. But I am already gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and egg-free for intolerance and allergy reasons, so this game isn't entirely new to me. :)

I love the shirt! I'd be happy to wear it. :)

  11. what a cute idea! bummer about it not fitting you though :-(

the best side effect isn't in me but in my kids.....their tempers do not flare as much (neither does mine) and we are all sleeping so much better. i also like the fact that DH and i have more energy for happy fun adult time now :)

oh yeah! and i love the fact that i have been able to wear clothes from before my son (who is 9.5 years old) was born!!
